Mocha Americano

Yes, it is the season of getting fit and eating well. But when there is all work and no play, no one can stick to a healthy plan. For us, the trick is finding little treats that won't bust the caloric count for the day. And sometimes it isn't a snack attack or dessert when we need our treat. Sometime, it comes first thing in the morning. To curb our morning sweet teeth, we go for a chocolate kissed Americano...and then we top it with a touch of low fat whipped cream. It is heaven in a glass and nothing to feel guilty about. Using cocoa powder instead of chocolate syrup really saves on calories and boosts the chocolate flavor. Using sugar substitute obviously cuts back on calories and the whipped cream, well it isn't so terrible bad for us when it comes from a can so we indulge ourselves. Try this the next time you need to tame your sweet tooth first thing in the morning.

Mocha Americano

2 strong shot espresso
1-2 tsp dark cocoa powder
Boiling water
2 Tbsp splenda (or other sugar substitute)
2 Tbsp peppermint flavored whipped cream

Pull the espresso shots and place in the bottom of a 16oz glass. Whisk in the cocoa powder and add enough boiling water to come to the top of the glass. Add the sweetener and stir. Top with the whipped cream and enjoy.

Yields 1 serving
