Orange Crush

On a recent trip to Virginia, I found myself at the beach to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean. But let's be honest, I was more interested in the tastes of the East Coast than the sites and sounds. After a lovely seafood dinner I was told that to truly experience Virginia Beach I had to visit Waterman's and more specifically, have an orange crush. What is an orange crush? As they say at Waterman's it's "fresh squeezed and sure to please with orange vodka, triple sec and a splash of Sprite!" This drink is perfect for the beach. It is light, it is refreshing, it is addicting. I am happy to say that although I cannot visit Waterman's on a regular basis, I can make my own orange crush at home. On your next hot day, serve yourself one of these and enjoy the weather.

The juice of one whole orange
1 oz orange vodka
1 oz triple sec
splash of sprite
crushed ice

Pour all ingredients over the crushed ice in a tall glass, insert straw and enjoy!

  5. I tried this at home as well-- Waterman's version was just so much better. Sweeter, as if they added simple syrup or sugar. Anyone know what brand of orange vodka and triple sec they use? I am guessing that was the difference. Also, one of our group said the bartender told him there was pineapple rum in the orange crushes-- is that true??

  6. I don't think there is pineapple rum as I watched them make the drink in front of me. I think the vodka was either smirnoff or finlandi. I know I have the ingredients right I am just not sure one the proportions.

  7. Yes the ingredients are correct! Make sure you have crushed ice it makes a big difference, they sell it at Sonic. As for the liquor it is Burnettes orange and your basic triple sec, but make sure its fresh O.J.!

  9. The pellet (nugget) ice is the real difference. Crushed just wont cut it.

  12. This is exactly how they make it at several top bars/restaurants in Ocean City, MD, which is the seaside resort town north of Virginia.

  13. You are so right, Thomas! The Harborside Restaurant in West Ocean City at the marina makes the best Orange Crush! Yummy!

  14. Woody's Ocean Grille in Sea Bright makes an excellent one as well. They literally juice the orange at the bar.
