Our Day at the Fair!

Ah...a day at the Puyallup Fair. What can be better? Well ok, drinking wine and sunning ourselves on the Amalfi coast while gorgeous Italian men feed us grapes could be better, but the fair is a close second. The sights, sounds, feel, smells and most importantly TASTE of the fair is something we look forward to year round. Twin Tables has our own tradition on how to do the Puyallup.

First, we start off the morning with a nutritious dairy intake in the form of "moo fresh" ice cream. They milk the cows, they make the ice cream, we eat the ice cream. It is mooooovelous! As we finish our ice cream we head to the Arts and Crafts building and visit our honey stand which has every flavor of honey from blackberry to clover to fireweed to RUM. We try as many as we can get away with and then buy our favorite. On our way to the fudge samples, we stop and watch the candle makers, then make our way to Seattle Fudge. Get your free sample and move on. (If you work it right, you can hit all the Seattle Fudge stands and shift changes you can try every flavor of fudge without having to buy a piece!)

From here, we make our way to the Home Art division to count all of our blue ribbons. Please see below. After the adrenaline rush, we are ready for lunch. Now in the past it was always a Fair Burger and fries, but this year we opted for the best BBQ Puyallup has to offer. BBQ Pete's is the best and let's face it, without BBQ Pete's the fair wouldn't smell right.

Next is the "it slices, it dices, it chops, it grinds" at the Showplex. You know what that means, more free food samples! Garlic, BBQ Sauce, caramel corn, soups, dips, cheesecakes, olive oils, vinegars, and smoothies. Paradise.

After all that walking we worked up another appetite. Since we already had lunch we were in the mood from something sweet. This brings us to the most serious decision of the day, elephant ear or funnel cake? After tummy deliberation we found the perfect elephant ear stand and had the most amazing treat! Not too buttery, loaded with cinnamon sugar, you better believe we were on the ultimate sugar high. What better way to head into the next round of tasters, blenders, sushi, and bacon? Yes, bacon. We found our soul "I Love Bacon/Bakin'" mates right at the Puyallup Fair. Since we were wearing the previous pictured t-shirts, we became the unofficial spokes models for Bacon Salt. After all that promotion work, we were hungry again. This time dinner, and Melissa's ultimate splurge....the Krusty Pup.

Imagine if you will, a beautifully thick cornbread batter, wrapped around a hot dog, fried to perfection, and dunked in a tub of yellow mustard. If only we could be so lucky as to be a Krusty Pup. The stick removed, of course.

The day was rounded out with fresh pulled taffy and hot scones. Only 345 days to train for next year's Fair. We certainly "Do The Puyallup" in culinary style.
